Solar system design and sizing

Almost every disappointing solar system was sized wrong rather than installed wrong. Too big, and you exported cheap power you paid full price to generate. Too small, and you are still buying most of your electricity.

This is the part of the job we spend the most time on, and it happens before you have committed to anything.

Two houses on the same street with the same roof can need different systems, because one has ducted air conditioning and an EV and the other has neither. Usage is the input that matters most and it is the one most often skipped.

Panels go where the roof allows, in separate runs if that is what fits, and never running over a ridge onto another face.

02

Why roof orientation changes the answer

North gives the most total output across a day. West gives less overall but delivers it in the late afternoon, when a Western Sydney household is running air conditioning and paying peak rates.

Which is better depends entirely on when you use power. On a hip roof, splitting the array between north and west often beats putting everything on the best face.

Common questions

The ones that come up on nearly every first call, answered straight.

Not on the list? Call 1300 958 778 or send it through.

  1. Do I need to send you my bills?

It is the single most useful thing you can give us. Twelve months is ideal, because a summer quarter and a winter quarter in Western Sydney look nothing alike.

  2. Can you quote without visiting?

We can give you an indicative figure, and we will be clear that is what it is. The written quote follows a site assessment, because that is where the switchboard, the roof condition and the real shade get established.

  3. What if my roof is shaded?

Shade is measurable and we measure it. Depending on the pattern it may mean fewer panels, a different layout, or panel-level electronics. It occasionally means solar is not worth it on that roof, and we would rather say so.

  4. Should I size for an EV I do not own yet?

If it is a real plan within a couple of years, yes, because adding capacity later costs more than building it in now. If it is a maybe, we will show you both numbers and let you choose.

  5. What is a realistic payback?

It depends on your usage, your tariff and your system size, so any figure quoted before those are known is marketing rather than arithmetic. We put your payback in the written quote with the assumptions behind it visible.

Send the address and roughly what your quarterly bill runs to. You get a system size, a price and a payback figure in writing, before you commit to anything.
